2009 Top Posts – Ethereal Thought Train
Posted by Todd Engstrom in links, personal, review on December 21, 2009

I’ve pretty much let Ethereal Thought Train go stale in the last two months, but I figured to close out 2009 I’d throw out your favorite posts of the year. Without further adieu, here they are:
- The 5 Big Issues in Campus Ministry | Missiology 1
- Summary of College Ministry | Gentrified
- Discipleship and Ministry
- College Ministers and Adoption
- Being a Pastor – Fun Sunday Questions
Hopefully you’ll enjoy some old reading while I prepare some new material for 2010!
Something Smells… and Hyperlinks
Posted by Todd Engstrom in links on October 22, 2009

This blog is getting pretty stale…I guess I should try to pick up the pace. In all honesty, I’m not sure I’ve had many thoughts worth posting as of late, and I’m also running thin on time. Here’s a few links I’ve been enjoying as of late to keep you occupied in the meantime:
And finally, make sure you register for Verge 2010: The DNA of Gospel Movements hosted by The Austin Stone on February 4th through 6th in Austin. Hope to see you there!
A Gospel-Centered Reader | Timmy Brister
Posted by Todd Engstrom in church, gospel, links on September 20, 2009
I stumbled across this resource a couple of weeks ago, but neglected to post it…the link below is an excellent compilation of Gospel-centered resources from Timmy Brister. Give it a look!
Timmy also just posted a links to Soma Community’s resources of “Living Inside the Gospel Story” here. I’m planning on doing some survey of the material this week, but let me know your thoughts!
College Ministry Links
Posted by Todd Engstrom in college ministry, links on September 15, 2009
There were two great posts about college ministry today that I wanted to point out to you:
- 6 Essentials of College Ministry from The Resurgence – this is some great practical wisdom for particular issues we face on college campuses.
- College Ministry Poles: Cooperation vs. Independence by Benson Hines – an excellent post on interaction with other campus ministries, and the variety of views between two ends of a spectrum.
For the record, I agree with all 6 elements posted at The Resurgence, and have personally faced each situation to which they speak. With respect to Benson’s post, I fall on the full collaboration of ministries (with a few caveats…primarily ministry methodology and gospel centrality).
I’d love to hear your thoughts on either post!
Labor Day Links
Posted by Todd Engstrom in links on September 7, 2009

I’ve been slacking on this blog lately for two reasons:
- I’m struggling with my next set of posts, and can’t seem to nail them down.
- We’re right in the heart of Fall insanity, and I’ve been working some long hours.
Excuses, exschmuses.
For Labor Day, I figured I’d provide you with a few links to whet your appetite and hopefully kick myself into blogging gear, so without further adieu, here’s some good stuff I’ve been reading lately:
- My friend Halim Suh, Pastor of Equipping at The Austin Stone, wrote an good reflection on confession at our new “God, Gospel, Mission” blog. For the sermon series, go here.
- I’ve thoroughly been enjoying Emails from Crazy People…helps me understand that I’m not the only one who gets crazy email sometimes.
- Timmy Brister posted a great list of Gospel-centered resources, which I’d recommend browsing through.
- I really enjoyed Bob Thune’s thoughts on cultivating a Gospel-centered church from the Acts 29 Quarterly.
Hope you enjoy these, and I’ll be back in action later this week!
